I found something strange growing in my mum's garden but then I found out it was edible so I fried it & put it on toast
A GARDENING fan has revealed how she turns a surprise plant in her mum's garden into a tasty snack.
But it turns out the mysterious plant has a deep history and some stark warnings.
The creator who goes by @tiredtillyfae shared her find in a TikTok video online.
She was stunned to find a strange mushroom growing right in the middle of her mothers green garden.
She said: “I found something strange growing in mum’s garden.”
After doing some research the creator managed to find out what type of mushroom it was.
She said: “This is a shaggy ink cap! (coprinus comatus). They are an edible fungi."
The gardening fan advised that the mushroom should only be eaten with advised caution.
She said: “It’s best to pick them before they go black. Monks throughout history bottles them and use them for writing ink.”
The creator decided to whip up a snack with her little shaggy ink cap.
She said: “Bacon would usually be my go to but we only had sausages in. The edible fungi blog I read said to fry them with butter very briefly as they are very delicate.”
After frying up the mysterious find the creator admitted it looked a little strange.
